Tortoise Beetle
Chelymorpha cribraria

Adult tortoise beetles inhabit fields, garden edges, and other warm places with bindweed-family host plants. They feed by scraping and chewing leaves, often remaining close to the plants on which they developed. The broad, shieldlike margins of the wing covers can hide the legs and head when the beetle presses itself against a leaf.
