Silver Mylossoma
Mylossoma duriventre
Adult Silver Mylossoma live in Amazon and Paraná basin rivers, especially floodplain lakes and seasonally inundated forests. They consume substantial amounts of fruit, seeds, leaves, and aquatic plant matter, supplemented by small animals when available. Their powerful, flattened silver body is well suited to weaving through woody floodplain habitat. By eating fallen fruit and carrying seeds through waterways, they can help disperse floodplain plants.
