White Underwing Moth
Catocala relicta

The adult White Underwing Moth flies at night through northern forests containing poplar, aspen, or birch. It rests against tree trunks by day, where its pale gray forewings blend remarkably well with lichen-covered bark. When disturbed, it may flash its bright white hindwings with dark bands, startling a predator before flying away.
