Red-tailed Squirrel Kit
Sciurus granatensis (juvenile)

Red-tailed squirrel kits remain close to the nest in humid tropical and montane forests of northern South America. As they grow, they practice climbing branches and making short leaps through the canopy. Their diet shifts from mother’s milk toward soft fruits, seeds, and tender plant material. A juvenile’s tail is noticeably less full and bushy than that of an adult.
