Small Blue
Cupido minimus

The adult butterfly flies in sunny, sheltered grasslands, quarries, embankments, and coastal sites where kidney vetch is available for breeding. It feeds on nectar from small flowers and often flies low, making short quick movements between perches. Males patrol or perch in warm spots while searching for females, and both sexes settle with closed wings for camouflage. Despite its name, it is mostly dusky brown-gray and is one of the smallest butterflies in Britain and Europe.
