Mottled Umber
Erannis defoliaria

This winter-flying moth occurs in woodland, orchards, hedgerows, and gardens with deciduous trees. Males fly at night in search of mates, while the flightless females climb trunks and branches to lay eggs. The mottled brown wings of the male blend remarkably well with bark when it rests by day.
