Common Millipede
Julus terrestris

The common millipede inhabits moist woodland litter, gardens, and soil beneath logs and stones. It slowly consumes dead leaves, decaying wood, and other organic material, helping return nutrients to the ground. Most active in humid conditions and after rain, it avoids dry exposed areas. When threatened, it coils its armored body and may release an unpleasant defensive chemical.
