Autumnal Moth
Epirrita autumnata
The adult autumnal moth flies on cool autumn nights in birch woodland, scrub, and northern heath. Males actively search for females, while females deposit eggs on suitable host plants. Its mottled grey-brown wings provide effective camouflage when it rests against bark or among dead leaves.
