Eastern Mudsnail
Ilyanassa obsoleta

Eastern mudsnails live on muddy shores, salt marshes, and estuaries along the Atlantic coast. They forage across exposed sediment and shallow water, scraping algae, decaying matter, and tiny animals from surfaces. When disturbed, they can withdraw tightly into their sturdy spiral shell; the species has also become established far beyond parts of its native range.
