Papuan Scorpionfish
Scorpaenopsis papuensis

Adults inhabit coral reefs, rubble slopes, and sheltered rocky bottoms across the tropical Indo-Pacific. They remain motionless for long periods before sucking in small fish and crustaceans in a sudden strike. Their irregular skin flaps and mottled pattern make them exceptionally difficult to spot, and their dorsal spines carry painful venom.
