Chestnut Turban
Turbo castanea

Adult chestnut turbans inhabit shallow rocky shores, reefs, and seagrass-adjacent hard bottoms in the western Atlantic and Caribbean. They slowly graze algae from stones and other firm surfaces using a rasping radula. Their thick, chestnut-brown turban-shaped shell and hard operculum provide strong protection when they retreat.
