Red Beaded Anemone
Phymanthus crucifer

The red beaded anemone inhabits shallow Caribbean and western Atlantic reefs, usually anchoring its column in sand or rubble near rocks. It waits with broad, bead-tipped tentacles spread around its oral disc, catching small fish, shrimp, and drifting invertebrates. Stinging cells in the tentacles immobilize prey and discourage predators. Despite its flower-like appearance, it is a solitary predatory cnidarian.
