Common Dace
Leuciscus leuciscus
Adult common dace live in clean, well-oxygenated rivers and streams, especially around steady currents and gravelly shallows. They feed on drifting aquatic insects, small invertebrates, plant material, and insects fallen onto the water. A streamlined silver body and deeply forked tail make this fish an especially fast swimmer in running water.
