Clibanarius erythropus

Hermit Crab [Clibanarius erythropus]

Adults inhabit rocky shores, tide pools, and shallow coastal waters of the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. They are opportunistic omnivores, feeding on algae, carrion, detritus, and small invertebrates. Their reddish legs extend from a scavenged gastropod shell, which is carried everywhere as both shelter and armor.
