Turnip Moth
Agrotis segetum

The adult is a nocturnal moth found around fields, gardens, grassland, and farmland edges. It flies after dusk, drinks nectar, and females lay eggs near low vegetation that can feed the next generation of cutworms. Its brown, patterned forewings blend well with soil, bark, and dead leaves while it rests during the day. Although the adult is harmless to crops, the species is well known because its larvae can be serious pests of seedlings.
