Black-headed Tanager Hatchling
Stilpnia cyanoptera (hatchling)
This altricial hatchling rests in a small cup nest in humid forest or woodland edge. It is mostly bare-skinned with sparse down and depends entirely on its parents for warmth and food. Loud begging calls help attract feedings of small insects and softened fruit; its eyes open only after the earliest nestling period.
