California Mantis
Stagmomantis californica

Adults inhabit dry grasslands, scrub, gardens, and other vegetation-rich habitats across the western United States. They are ambush predators that seize flies, moths, bees, and other insects with powerful grasping forelegs before feeding with their jaws. The adult develops wings, and males are generally more active fliers than the heavier females.
