Wakasagi
Hypomesus nipponensis

Adult wakasagi live in lakes, rivers, and coastal brackish waters, with some populations migrating between fresh and salt water. They feed mainly on zooplankton, aquatic insects, and small crustaceans caught in quick forward snaps. This small smelt is especially well known for winter ice fishing in Japan.
