Terrestrial Leech
Chtonobdella limbata

The adult terrestrial leech inhabits wet forest floors, streamside vegetation, and shaded ground after rain. It waits on leaves or soil for a passing host, then attaches with its sucker and feeds on blood. Its small toothed jaws make a neat wound while anticoagulants keep blood flowing. It can survive long periods between meals after taking a full feed.
