Darkling Beetle
Blapstinus fortis

Adult darkling beetles inhabit dry, open ground, hiding under stones, litter, and debris during the day. They emerge mainly at night to forage for seeds, dead plant matter, fungi, and other organic scraps. When threatened, the beetle tucks in its legs and relies on its tough exoskeleton. Like many darkling beetles, it can release defensive chemicals from its abdomen to discourage predators.
