Cairo Spiny Mouse
Acomys cahirinus

The Cairo spiny mouse inhabits arid rocky country, wadis, and dry grassland, taking refuge in cracks, burrows, and dense cover. It forages mostly at night for seeds, fruits, leaves, and insects, moving quickly between hiding places. Its stiff, spine-like guard hairs help protect it from predators, and it is notable for being able to regenerate damaged skin and tissue unusually well.
