Eastern Meadowlark
Sturnella magna

Adult Eastern Meadowlarks live in grasslands, pastures, hayfields, and open prairies, where they walk through vegetation searching for food. They eat many insects during the breeding season, along with seeds and grain at other times of year. Males sing a clear, flute-like song from fence posts or low perches to claim territory. Despite their bright yellow chest, their brown-streaked back blends well with open grassland when they drop to the ground.
