Large Psammodromus
Psammodromus algirus

The adult large psammodromus is a fast, ground-dwelling lizard of Mediterranean scrubland, open woodland, hedgerows, and dry grassy areas. It eats insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, actively searching through vegetation and debris rather than waiting motionless for long periods. When threatened, it sprints for dense cover and may shed part of its tail to distract a predator. Males can show bright orange or reddish breeding colours along the sides of the head and throat.
