Carolina Dung Beetle
Dichotomius carolinus

Adult Carolina dung beetles live in open woodland, pasture, and forest habitats across the southeastern United States. They locate mammal dung, excavate tunnels beneath it, and bury portions as food for themselves and their young. Males bear a prominent horn used in contests over access to food and breeding sites.
