The adult Scarce Footman is a slender nocturnal moth found around woodland edges, heathland, grassland, and lichen-rich urban sites. It flies after dark and commonly comes to artificial lights, while resting quietly by day on bark or walls. Adults take little food, with the caterpillar stage responsible for most feeding and growth.
