Cymodoce Guard Crab
Trapezia cymodoce
Adult Cymodoce guard crabs live closely among the branches of coral colonies on tropical reefs. They feed on coral mucus, algae, and trapped particles, often remaining within the same host coral for long periods. In return for shelter and food, they may defend their coral from predators such as crown-of-thorns sea stars by pinching exposed tube feet.
