Common Redshank
Tringa totanus

Adult Common Redshanks inhabit estuaries, tidal mudflats, saltmarshes, wet meadows, and shallow freshwater margins. They stalk through shallow water or soft mud, using their long bill to take worms, insects, molluscs, and small crustaceans. Adults are alert and often give loud alarm calls before flying away on broad, pointed wings. Their bright red-orange legs are a notable field mark.
