Common Bronzewing
Phaps chalcoptera
Common Bronzewings inhabit open forests, woodland edges, scrub, farmland, and urban gardens across much of Australia. They forage mainly on the ground for seeds, grains, and other plant material, fleeing into nearby cover when disturbed. Their wings make a sharp whistling sound in flight, and the metallic bronze-green patches on their wings shimmer in sunlight.
