Spring Stonefly
Perlodes microcephalus

The winged adult rests on streamside vegetation and rocks near the clear rivers where it developed. It flies mainly to find mates and egg-laying sites, and may take moisture or little food during its short adult life. Its presence is a useful sign of clean, well-oxygenated water.
