Yellow-bellied Seedeater
Sporophila nigricollis

The Yellow-bellied Seedeater lives in grasslands, marsh edges, pastures, and weedy cultivated fields across much of tropical South America. It forages low in vegetation, using its stout conical bill to husk small grass seeds, while also taking insects at times. Males often sing from exposed grass stems or low perches to advertise a territory. The species is named for the male's conspicuous yellow underparts.
