Wrinkled Snail
Xeroplexa intersecta

The wrinkled snail is a small land snail of dry grasslands, scrub, field margins, and disturbed ground around the Mediterranean and in introduced regions. It feeds mainly by rasping algae, decaying plant matter, and soft vegetation with its radula. In hot, dry weather it retreats into its shell, often sealing the opening with a temporary mucus barrier to reduce water loss. Its finely ridged, pale-banded shell provides both protection and camouflage among soil and stones.
