Round Sardinella
Sardinella aurita

Adult round sardinella live in warm marine coastal and shelf waters, sometimes entering brackish estuaries. They feed by filtering phytoplankton and zooplankton from the water with specialized gill rakers. Adults are active swimmers that undertake seasonal movements in response to changing water conditions and food availability. Their bright silver flanks reflect light and help obscure their outline in open water.
