Mantled Howler Monkey
Alouatta palliata

Mantled howler monkeys inhabit mature and recovering tropical forests from southern Mexico through Central America and into northern South America. They spend much of the day in the treetops, feeding mainly on leaves along with fruit and flowers. Adults travel through branches with deliberate climbing and strong grasping limbs. Enlarged throat structures help produce far-carrying calls that can be heard over long distances through the forest.
