Giant Silkworm Moth
Lonomia obliqua

The adult giant silkworm moth is a nocturnal forest moth found around trees and woodland margins in southern South America. It flies after dark to locate mates and spends daylight hours resting with its patterned wings blending into bark and dead leaves. Adults have reduced mouthparts and generally do not feed, relying on energy stored during their caterpillar stage.
