Adult Laophonte serrata is a minute harpacticoid copepod living on the seafloor, especially among algae and sediment in coastal waters. It crawls and makes short swimming bursts while feeding on surface films of algae, microbes, and organic debris. Its tough segmented exoskeleton is shed during molts as it grows.
