Texas Banded Gecko
Coleonyx brevis
The Texas banded gecko inhabits dry grasslands, rocky slopes, and desert scrub, spending daylight hours hidden beneath stones or in crevices. Active at night, it stalks insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates with quick bursts of pursuit. Its pale bands help break up its outline against sandy ground, and it can shed its tail to distract a predator.
