Little Brown Skink
Scincella lateralis

Little Brown Skinks inhabit moist woodland floors, brushy edges, and gardens with deep leaf litter across the southeastern United States. They forage actively for ants, beetles, spiders, and other small invertebrates. Their brown stripes provide camouflage as they slip beneath leaves and debris. A threatened skink may shed its tail to distract a predator while it escapes.
