Barred Buttonquail
Turnix suscitator

The barred buttonquail inhabits dry grassland, scrub, farmland, and open forest edges across much of South and Southeast Asia. It spends most of its time running through dense ground cover, feeding on seeds, shoots, insects, and other small invertebrates. When threatened, it prefers to freeze or sprint away, taking flight only in a short, sudden burst. Despite its quail-like appearance, it belongs to the distinct buttonquail family rather than the true quails.
