Mud Wasp
Podalonia affinis
Adult mud wasps live in sandy or bare-soil habitats where they excavate individual nesting burrows. Females hunt caterpillars, paralyze them with a sting, and store them underground as food for their larvae. Adults also visit flowers for nectar. Despite nesting near one another where soil is suitable, each female provisions her own nest.
