Common Snipe
Gallinago gallinago

Common Snipes inhabit marshes, wet meadows, bogs, and muddy pond edges, where they probe soft ground with their long sensitive bills. They feed mainly on worms, insect larvae, small molluscs, and other invertebrates. When flushed, they burst upward in a fast zigzag flight that makes them difficult to follow. Males perform a dramatic courtship flight, producing a drumming sound with their outer tail feathers.
