Common Vole
Microtus arvalis

Common voles inhabit grassy fields, meadows, farmland margins, and other dense ground cover across much of Europe. They feed chiefly on grasses, herbs, roots, seeds, and agricultural crops, often cutting short runways through vegetation. A skilled digger, this small rodent shelters in shallow burrows and can undergo dramatic population booms in favorable years.
