Red-shouldered Bug

Jadera haematoloma

Red-shouldered Bug

Adults inhabit warm groves, roadsides, gardens, and other places where soapberry fruits are abundant. They use a long piercing beak to feed chiefly on seeds, often probing inside split fruits or pods. Fully developed wings allow them to fly between host trees when food becomes scarce. Their body shape and beak can vary among populations in response to the kinds of fruits they feed on.
