Western Gray Squirrel Kit
Sciurus griseus (kit)

Newborn western gray squirrel kits remain hidden in a tree cavity or leafy nest, relying on warmth, shelter, and the care of their mother. At this stage they feed on milk rather than foraging for seeds, nuts, fungi, or plant material. Their main defense is staying quiet and concealed, since they are not yet able to escape well. A notable fact is that kits are born hairless and helpless, developing the agility of a tree squirrel only gradually.
