Yellow-shouldered Stout Hover Fly
Simosyrphus grandicornis

Adults occur in open woodland, gardens, farmland, and flowering grasslands across much of Australia. They hover precisely around flowers, feeding on nectar and pollen, while females search for aphid-rich plants on which to lay eggs. Despite their bee-like yellow markings, they are harmless flies and do not sting.
