Sea Butterfly
Limacina helicina

Adult sea butterflies inhabit the open water of cold and temperate oceans, from near the surface to deeper pelagic layers. They flap paired parapodia to swim and spread fine mucus webs to collect plankton. Despite their snail ancestry, they spend their lives drifting and swimming rather than crawling on the seafloor.
