Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toad
Gastrophryne carolinensis

Adults inhabit moist woodland floors, gardens, and sandy or loose-soiled areas across the southeastern United States. They spend much of the day hidden underground or beneath debris, emerging in warm, humid conditions to hunt ants and termites. When threatened, this toad can inflate its rounded body and produce sticky skin secretions that discourage predators.
