Cosmopolitan Springtail
Entomobrya nivalis

Cosmopolitan springtails live in damp leaf litter, soil, moss, and beneath decaying wood across a wide range of regions. They feed chiefly on fungi, algae, decaying plant material, and microscopic organic matter. When disturbed, they snap a forked tail-like structure called the furcula against the ground to launch themselves away. Despite their name, springtails are not true insects, but close hexapod relatives.
