Giant Burrowing Frog Tadpole
Heleioporus australiacus (tadpole)
This large tadpole lives in still or slow-moving freshwater pools, often among leaf litter and submerged vegetation. It grazes on algae, detritus, and tiny organic particles, using its tail to dart away from threats. Giant Burrowing Frog tadpoles can remain in the water for a long period, growing unusually large before metamorphosis.
