Oak Jumping Spider
Ballus chalybeius

The oak jumping spider lives on tree trunks, foliage, and shrubs in woodland edges, gardens, and hedgerows. It stalks tiny insects at close range before making a swift, accurate leap and subduing prey with a venomous bite. Rather than building a prey-catching web, it relies on excellent vision and silk safety lines while moving through vegetation. Its compact body and enlarged forward-facing eyes are characteristic of jumping spiders.
