Black-shouldered Shieldbug
Carpocoris purpureipennis

The adult black-shouldered shieldbug occupies open grasslands, crop edges, hedgerows, and warm gardens. It feeds by piercing seeds, fruits, and other plant tissues, often visiting umbellifers and grasses. Its shield-shaped body and foul-smelling defensive secretion discourage many predators. Adults have fully developed wings and can fly between feeding plants.
